Hurricane Season 2017 Is Here – Above Normal Season Predicted

The 2017 hurricane season has made it's grand entrance this year and forecasters are expecting it to be an above normal season. Hurricane season began on June 1 and runs through the end of November each year. On average, 12 named storms occur each season, with an average of 6 becoming hurricanes and 3 becoming major hurricanes. This year's hurricane season is expected to produce up to 17 named storms, with between 5 and 9 becoming hurricanes. Of those named hurricanes, between 2 and 4 of them will become major hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5).

Hurricane season 2017 got off to an early start, with Tropical Storm Arlene forming in the Atlantic Ocean in mid-April. Before Arlene, the only other recorded storm to meet Tropical Storm criteria in the month of April was Tropical Storm Ana which formed in 2003. There are no other recorded Tropical Storms in the month of April. If that's any indication of the hurricane season ahead, you should prepare yourself  before the inevitable power outages happen.

No matter the number of predicted hurricanes for this year's season, one storm is enough to disrupt your life. During the 2016 hurricane season, the southeast United States was pounded by Hurricane Matthew, a category 4 storm when it made landfall. While the strong winds blew and the heavy rains fell, there were more than 1 million power outages reported. The power remained out for what seemed like forever before it was finally restored weeks later. Families were left scrambling to figure out how to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of hurricane Matthew. The time to get prepared is now, don't wait until it's too late!

Power outages are never going away. In fact, it is more likely that power outages will significantly increase over time and increased storm activity is partly to blame. Don't get left in the dark this hurricane season. Canter Power Systems is the #1 residential generator installer in the US!
